The Research Begins
This is indeed the first post, something which I ought to celebrate. Yay. There. Now, to business! As a football fan (I’ll leave you to guess what club team I support*), I have become somewhat dismayed by Sepp Blatter’s proposed ‘Six-Five’ rule.
In a nutshell, this rule would dictate that a club team must field six players from their respective national pool leaving only five positions available for “foreign” players. Blatter’s idea for this clearly arose from the English national team’s recent failures to perform to their ‘ability’. Any Tom, Dick or Harry would surely realise that any enforcement of this would not only be hilariously illegal under European Union laws (I’m not going to labour on that point much because there’s many other reasons why this would be a failure) but also decrease the quality of club football in general, specifically the English Premier League. I enjoy the Premier League because it has the most diverse range of players plying their trade.
Anyway, I what I am going to do is research this topic more and put together an in-depth analysis of this ‘Six-Five’ rule with respect to the English Premier League. My intention then is to send this off to Mr. Blatter. Would I expect a response? Not a chance. Then why am I doing it? Because it’ll make me feel better and give me something to do with my time.
On the topic of Blatter’s crazy ideas, this is the man who also suggested that female soccer players should wear ‘tighter shorts’. I’m sure there was a complete sporting reason behind that suggestion, eh Blatter?
Anyway, to research!
*Yes, I support Arsenal. Very well done.
